OUR STORY

The Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Foundation (BCNF) was established as a registered charity by co-founder Dr Alison Bernard in May 2015. Since its inception, the BCNF has worked to improve breastfeeding rates and support child nutrition in Barbados.

In March 2021, our volunteer-run organisation was incorporated as a non-profit organisation. Breastfeeding links to all of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and it is our duty to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding and good child nutrition in Barbados.

We do our work through your donations and hope to continue our community services with your continued support.

To improve childhood health and nutrition through raising awareness of the importance and the benefits of breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding and their impact on overall child health in Barbados.

Education

We aim to improve medical infrastructure by enhancing health professionals’ education and practice with breastfeeding.

RESOURCES

We hope to create more community resources to help mothers, such as breastfeeding peer support counsellors.

LEGISLATION

We aim to advocate for legislation to establish better employment policies such as parental leave and a breastfeeding-friendlier workplace.

NUTRITION GUIDANCE

We seek to offer guidance and advocacy on complementary foods after the transition from exclusively breastfeeding, which is an especially fragile nutritional period.
